"David Gazarov Trio - in The Spirit of Oscar"
As many of you probably know, OSCAR PETERSON passed away in December last year at the age of 82. He had his place in jazz piano Olymp already secured since decades - therefore it was a "firsthand" idea to remember him with this year's "Johnny's Jazz Night". Since this can only be achieved with another truly exceptional pianist, DAVID GAZAROV (p) will introduce his new programm at the 2008 "Shake The Lake".
As a highlight there is not only David with Jazz Standards, own compositions, and certainly one or another Peterson Original, but he is also accompanied on drums by MARTIN DREW (d), long-time drummer partner of Oscar Peterson (more info at drummerworld)! Martin Drew is traveling from London to join us at the Festival.

When talking about the great jazz pianists of the 20th century, the name Oscar Peterson is mentioned inevitably. Over a period of 60 (!) Years, he was a shining star in the jazz scene, countless musicians remember him as a source of inspiration for their own musical development. Undoubtedly he was one of the most famous (jazz) pianists of all time.
Within in the last two years we had with Monty Alexander (p) a musician at "Shake The Lake," who developed his very personal style from the tradition of Nat King Cole and Oscar Peterson (who was one of his promoters) his own personal style - Monty's concerts were received enthusiatically at the "Lehar Theater".
This year, we are very pleased to present David Gazarov and his Trio. Also for him, Oscar Peterson was - alongside Bill Evans - a major inspiration. The trio is being completed with ALEXANDER MEIK (b), a great bassist who is part of the festival for many years now in different formations - since the first appearanc at our festival he became a true "Lakeshaker".
